Old School But Still Cool!

Old School But Still Cool!

These aren't that old but they were at least pre 00's.

Photobucket Boyz II Men- II (1994)
Boyz II Men are in my opinion the best male R&B/Soul group ever and my favourite of all their albums is their second release II.
With hits like On Bended Knee, I'll Make Love To You, Water Run's Dry and their duet of One Sweet Day with Mariah, this album is smooth, soulful and awesome.
You just can't beat the way these guys harmonise.

Check Out: Evolution (1997) and Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA (2007)

Photobucket Mariah Carey- Daydream (1995)
I love Mariah's voice and still love her CDs to this day but there's something about 90's Mariah that is just that bit more special.
With her fifth release Daydream, it doesn't matter where I am, what I'm doing, I can put this CD on and belt out songs like Fantasy, One Sweet Day, Open Arms and Always Be My Baby until I start believing I'm Mariah.

Check Out: All of her albums but particularly- Music Box (1993), Butterfly (1997), Charmbracelet (2002), The Emancipation Of Mimi (2005) and E=Mc2 (2008)
Plus DVD: Fantasy: Mariah Carey at Madison Square Garden (1996), Around the World (1999), #1's (1999) and The Adventures of Mimi (2007)

Photobucket Brandy- The Best of Brandy (2005)
OK this wasn't released that long ago to make it old school but most of the songs that make this album so special came out in the 90's.
It's classic R&B and Brandy has such a husky, honey kind of voice. As the title suggests, it is a compilation of the best of Brandy's songs and it's all very catchy and smooth.

Check Out: Never Say Never (1998) You might double up on a few songs but it's still worth it.

Photobucket Stevie Wonder- Song Review - A Greatest Hits Collection (1996)
Stevie personifies R&B, Soul, Funk, Motown, Pop. He is a musical and vocal genius and this a cool collection of his classic best work.

Check Out- Stevie's entire music catalogue.

Photobucket Brian McKnight- Back At One (1999)
Brian McKnight is just smooth R&B and with songs like Back At One, 6,18,12, Cherish and Home, I never tire of this CD.

Check Out: Gemini (2005)

Albums I'm Loving Right Now!

Albums I'm loving right now!

This could literally go on forever but here are just a few cool albums that I recommend for now.

Photobucket Paulini- Superwoman (2006)
Paulini is so overlooked in Australia and it bugs me. Her voice is flawless and strong and this album is full of fun, catchy Pop/R&B tracks.

Check Out: One Determined Heart (2004)

Photobucket Joss Stone- Introducing Joss Stone (2007)
Joss can do no wrong and her voice oozes soul. I loved her first 2 albums but this one is even better.

Check Out: The Soul Sessions (2003) and Mind, Body & Soul (2004)
Plus DVD: Mind, Body & Soul Sessions: Live in New York City (2004)

Photobucket Beyonce- B Day (2006)
Beyonce is the queen of R&B entertainment today and her second solo album B Day is awesome. Catchy Hip Hop/R&B tracks and brilliant vocals make this a winner.
The deluxe edition is even better with bonus tracks and video clips.

Check Out: Dangerously In Love (2003) and B Day Deluxe CD/DVD Edition (2007)
Plus DVD- Live at Wembley (2004) and The Beyoncé Experience Live! (2007)

Photobucket India Arie- Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship (2006)
India's music is a mix of Neo Soul/Acoustic and amongst the soulful vocals and bouncy melodies, there are inspiring positive messages and stories.
Her lyrics are fun but very clever and well written. Love her!!

Check Out: Acoustic Soul (2001) and Voyage to India (2002)

Photobucket Ricki-Lee- Brand New Day (2007)
Love, love, love Ricki's raspy, soulful voice. Her second release Brand New Day is a fun, dancey mix of R&B/Soul/Pop sounding tracks and when you hear it makes you want to move. It's old school soul meets new school pop.

Check Out- Ricki-Lee (2005)

Photobucket Lily Allen- Alright, Still (2006)
This album surprised me because it's not the kind I would initially rush out to buy and Lily's voice isn't the soul voice that attracts me to a lot of music but I really love every single track.
It's hard to describe the genre other than to say funky pop/reggae. Lily is a very cool songwriter and I guarantee you'll have this one on repeat for a long time.

Photobucket Maroon 5: It Won't Be Soon Before Long (2006)
This album is so damn catchy and there are no skip tracks. It is a mix of Pop/Funk/Rock with an electronic sound. This is Maroon 5's second release and I like it better than their first.

Photobucket Leona Lewis- Spirit (2007)
It took me a few listens to get past the Delta/Mariah blend of similarities but now I really love the whole album.
It's easy to listen to, easy to sing to and theres no denying Leona has a great set of pipes.

Photobucket Elliott Yamin- Elliott Yamin (2007)
I loved Elliott's soulful voice the first time I heard him sing on American Idol and had to get his debut album straight away.
It's even more impressive than I was expecting and every song sticks in your head after only a few listens. This album is a mix of Pop/Contemporary R&B tracks. Very cool!
